Grace Matthews advised Merit Capital Partners and management on the sale of Active Minerals International LLC (“Active Minerals” or the “Company”) to Golden Gate Capital (“Golden Gate”). Management will retain a significant ownership stake in the business. Founded in 1964, Active Minerals is a leading global producer and distributor of specialty industrial minerals, including kaolin and gel quality attapulgite clay minerals. Active Minerals is headquartered in Sparks, Maryland and has regional offices in China, Korea, Taiwan, Mexico, Australia and Brazil. The Company’s products are sold globally for industrial, agricultural and construction-related applications. AMI delivers unmatched technical expertise and dispatches its knowledgeable employees around the globe to help customers meet their business objectives. Grace Matthews understood that the Company would attract a high level of interest among both strategic and private equity buyers, and it conducted a competitive auction process. Golden Gate, a private equity fund with a strong track record of successful investments in industrial minerals, emerged as the buyer and successfully closed the transaction in November 2018.
